I’d like you to do the Money Acceptance Exercise once a day, every day for a week (7 days max). Take no more than 10 minutes to do it each time. You should only do this exercise if you think you might need money or plan on using money in the future. Here’s how it works:
Sit down, and close your eyes.
Visualize someone walking up to you and handing you a $1 bill.
Really live it, see it, feel it, smell it.
You take it in your hand, and put it in your wallet or purse. That was nice of them.
How did that make you feel? Think about it for just a moment.
Next – someone walks up to you and hands you a $10 bill, and you accept it.
How did that make you feel?
Next – someone walks up to you and hands you a $100 bill, and you accept it.
How did that make you feel?
Next – someone walks up to you and hands you a check for $1000, and you accept it.
How did that make you feel? It’s only money. You can accept it because it’s the right thing.
Maybe they owed it to you, or bought something from you. See them smiling during the transaction.
Now try it with a check for $10,000. Remember it’s only money. It’s just a piece of paper like the $1000 check was.
Now try it with a check for $100,000. It’s a cashier’s check from a well known bank. The person is dressed meticulously like a business woman or man. They are very happy with you.
Now try it with $1 million dollars. Maybe it’s a bank transfer that you know is coming sometime today, and you check your bank account on-line multiple times until you see the transfer successfully completed.
That money is yours now, because you earned it.
At what point in these visualizations do you feel resistance?
Do you feel like you can keep the money, that it’s really yours? If not, why not?
Re-visualize the one where you have strong resistance 2 or 3 times until you can see the person smiling and really encouraging you to take the check – because of a real estate or business deal that was well worth it for them. You did a good job, and they’re paying you for it, as they agreed to. Then move on to the next level.
If you don’t make it thru all the levels in 10 minutes, that’s OK, you can start again tomorrow.
Resistance to Accepting Money
Why do we have resistance at a certain point? Nobody has that kind of resistance to money at age 5, 7, 10! It’s something artificial that doesn’t deserve to hang on to you. You are going to clean it, so you can accept any amount of money, with any numbers on it, the right amount, when you have participated in an honest business or real estate transaction that earns you that amount. It’s only right.
I remember Tony Robbins telling of a time (on an audio tape of his) when he hit a personal ceiling of his own, it was something like $10 million dollars per year or so. He just couldn’t get past that income level. If he made more money earlier in the year, the rest of the year he would earn less, so that it ended up totaling almost exactly $10 million per year. This kind of a limit is psychological, not physical. He had to do some visualizations and exercises to get past that point himself. …boy it would be nice to have THAT problem, wouldn’t it! 🙂
Money has powerful psychological effects on us. Without cleaning problems like this in your emotions, you will subtly sabotage yourself from reaching the next financial level. I’ve seen it; I’ve done it. Luckily there are visualization techniques to clean these emotion-rooted problems from our psyche. The future is limitless.
